Children's Museum

This past Friday we joined the Broggi family at the Children's Museum in Atlanta.  There are a lot of cool things there for the kids to play with.  Reed loved running from one thing to the next.  I can't believe this was our first trip.  We will definitely have to get an annual pass when we get back.

Reed's favorite thing at the Children's Museum, shocker!

His second favorite thing at the museum was this crane-like mechanism with pulleys.  The round disk that he is holding onto would spin the entire thing around.

Jack and Luke milking the cow that Reed would not go anywhere near.  It mooed when you milked it, lol!

Snow Pics!

Yes, I know, these are WAY late.  I am terribly behind on blogging lately.  I guess my mind has been occupied with what exactly I should be doing to get ready for our big move that is happening in less than two week, eek!

Anywho, we saw the first decent snow at our new house the second week of January.  It basically shut the entire city down for the week, which I actually don't mind, however, Chris still had to work from home.  Maybe one day he will have a job that will actually allow him to take that time off.  We did get a little time during the week to play out in the snow, but Reed really wasn't a big fan.  Honestly, I love snow, but I mainly love looking at it from the warm inside of my home, unless I'm skiing or sledding.

Reed's version of being very dramatic after not liking the snow.

He decided he might like it a little more once Chris started throwing chunks of ice into our yard.

I look forward to the next big snow!!  I am sure I am probably the only person saying that.

Which Wich?

Last night, Reed and I made it down to the Family and Friends Event at Which Wich? in Atlantic Station.  We were invited by my good friend Maureen whose brother and his wife are opening the Which Wich?.  It was a night to try out basically everything they offered for free.  And, can I say that the sandwiches were really yummy!  Reed also loved his grilled cheese!  Thanks to Brian and Jocelyn for hosting the event.  We look forward to coming back as paying customers.  If you are in Atlantic Station definitely check out Which Wich? for a bite to eat.  And, I highly recommend the oreo milkshake.

Design Board #2: Study

You may remember how our study looked when we purchased our home......

The former owners had a thing for blue, I believe.  While, I am not against blue, it is already in the sunroom in a much better shade, so we knew that this blue had to go eventually.
On Chris's week off from work after Christmas, we finally picked a green that we liked, Mossy Green by Glidden, and decided to go for it.  So here is the study as it stands now.

Much better!  Just the right color for the cigar room environment that Chris is hoping for.  We picked up this cool rug at Ikea.

And, a view from the other side.  Notice that we also painted the french doors white.  This happened before we even moved in the house.
And, with a little help from Michelle over at Second Street East, Chris's room is going to look like this in the very near future.  Woohoo!  Can't wait to get started.  Thanks again Michelle!

First Design Board!

I stumbled across a blog of an interior designer who is just starting her business.  After browsing her blog I discovered that I love her style and the rooms she had previously designed.  I inquired about the price of a design board from her and she said $25.  I said, "sign me up"!  Here is the first board that she sent me.  Ah, I can't wait to put it all together!

If you are interested in getting a $25 design board for a room in your house that needs decorating help or updated, check Michelle Henderson out at her website Second Street East.  You can email her at michelle.leigh.henderson@gmail.com.   Up next, study, sunroom, and dining room.  Woohoo!  Too bad we're moving and can't get started on the decorating!  Also, if you are interested in exactly where everything is from, let me know.

Granddaddy

Yesterday was a very sad day for my family.  My Granddaddy passed away at the age of 88.  He lived a very long and happy life and I am so glad that I was able to have so many years with him.  Here's a little bit about my Granddaddy that we will all miss so very much.

My Granddaddy, who served in the Navy on USS Loeser during WWII, was a very kind, loving, hard-working and caring man.  He delighted in spending time with his family.  My Granddaddy often referred to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as "boo boo". I loved it and found it very endearing that he just had a general name for those he thought fondly of. He would often refer to us as "sugar" too. Chris remembers a recent time that we visited him and he greeted me with a "hey sugar".

My Granddaddy had a great love for dance.  You know the song "I Can Only Imagine".....I can imagine that my Granddaddy may have shown off a few of his salsa or cha-cha steps when he got to heaven.  This probably happened just before he hit the links with his son Rodney.

My Granddaddy loved to play golf.  Up until just a week ago, he continuously talked about wanting to play golf just one more time.  He played as often as he could, even though it was difficult for him to get around.  He loved watching Reed swing the golf club.  I think it made him excited to see someone so young excited about the game.

My Granddaddy was a comedian.  You could often find him sitting in his recliner with a big book of jokes.  And, he was known to regularly pull out a joke that might not necessarily be appropriate for his particular audience at the time.  He loved telling jokes though.  He would often cackle louder than anyone else in the room and I loved it.  I loved how excited and worked up he would get when telling a joke.  He was usually funnier than the joke itself.  He also continued his comedic reign even when he wasn't feeling the best.  He would often call and ask how I was doing and I would ask the same, and he would respond by saying in a very sarcastic tone "I'm not even going to tell you, it might ruin your day".  Oh, how I am going to miss that.

My Granddaddy frequently sent us away from his home with a simple "vote for me", although he never ran for public office.  This was always so hilarious.  I think he probably told Chris this the most, maybe he was a little worried that Chris might not vote for him, lol!  Speaking of politics, you did not want to get my Granddaddy started talking about politics.  He was very firm in his thoughts and we would often cringe if anyone even mentioned the election or anything of that nature.

My Granddaddy absolutely loved breakfast, bacon, eggs, biscuits, the works.   He had to have his breakfast otherwise the day just didn't start off right.

My Granddaddy loved a good nap in his recliner.  I never understood how he could sleep so soundly sitting straight up (he never actually reclined his chair), but we would often surprise him if we stopped by in the afternoon.  He would always get knocked out sitting in his recliner with the TV blaring (he didn't have very good hearing).

My Granddaddy loved to sing.  He was a member of his church choir for many, many years.  Even when he got to the point where he couldn't stand to sing, he would sit in the choir loft and sing.  He loved it.

Rest in peace my dear, sweet Granddaddy.  You will certainly be missed, but I know that you are in a much better place now.  One where you are completely healthy again, playing golf, and spending time with those you have missed so much, Uncle Rodney and Mama Hardeman.  We can all find comfort in knowing this and knowing that we will be able to see you again someday!  We love you very much!

Although a little blurry, you can tell Granddaddy loved our little guy.

Happy New Year!!

We spent New Year's Eve this year at the Chick-fil-a Bowl with our good friends Jordan and Maureen.  Jordan snagged 50 yard line suite tickets from his company and invited us to join them.  We cheered on the South Carolina Gamecocks, but unfortunately they couldn't pull it out.  It was a great NYE overall, very relaxing and a lot of fun.  We ended up counting down to the new year in the car with one hilarious countdown.  I have to say that it will probably be the most memorable countdown ever!  Thanks to Jordan and Maureen for letting us tag along!  We had a great time!

Who's that handsome guy?

The Girls!  We had fun chatting during the game!

Pre-game photo from our seats, they were great!  It will be hard to go to the Georgia Dome and sit anywhere else, lol!
As for New Year's resolutions, I stopped making them years ago, because I never keep them.  If I had to make one, I would probably say that I would like to stop waiting until the last minute to get things done.  Things like planning birthday parties, mini-vacations, getting my hair cut, etc.  The list goes on and on of things that I never get around to planning or doing until the last minute.  It stresses me out to the max.  Let's hope that I can get 2011 started off great by doing a lot of pre-planning for our big move to London in February.  I guess I should probably start packing now!  Happy New Year everyone!  I hope 2011 is a great year for you!

For the love of Dawson!

My favorite has to be the "Nostalgic" face!  Enjoy!

A Merry Little Christmas!

It was a great Christmas at the Jarrett household!  We spent a few days before Christmas hopping from house to house Christmas partying with family in Summerville.  We took a late night drive home on Christmas Eve, so that we could be at home for Santa to bring Reed his gifts.  And, boy did Reed get some really good loot this Christmas, not only from Santa but from all our family!

Reed with Great-Grandmother and Great-Granddaddy. Our first Christmas party was with my Dad's parents at my aunt's house.

Reed with Kallan and Marin, too cute!

Yum, cupcakes!

Me and my brother with my grandparents!

Reed loved pulling the tissue paper out of his gifts.

A portion of the Jarretts waiting to open gifts.

Reed was pooped after a night at Mike Mike and Kath's.

The first gift Reed got from my parents was a pair of rain boots.  The first thing he did was throw them over his shoulder and.....

And, say bye bye!  Too hilarious!

Shooting hoops in the basketball goal that Uncle Marc bought him.

Checking out bathtime Mickey with Jo.

Reed's loot from Santa!  He must have been good this year!

"Goof!"

"What cha talkin' bout Willis?"

Once he found the crayons and coloring books, that's all he wanted to do.

"I'm ready to travel now, guys."  Chris and I got Reed his own bag for traveling.

Tip for those who don't live where it snows all the time (courtesy of my parents):  Use grocery bags as snow boots.  Such a good idea and it worked perfectly.

17 Months!

Yes, I am a little bit late with this post, but Reed and I have been enjoying having Chris around this week!  It's going to be really sad to see Daddy go back to work tomorrow.

Stats:
Weight:
Height:

At 17 Months:
  • Reed has become a comedian.  He's so good at making all the animal sounds that he has now started to alter them.  His meow for a cat now sounds like a dying cat.  We have been laughing at him every time he does this and now he has started to laugh at himself when he is making the sound as well.  He's so funny he's cracking himself up.  We also ask him what Reed says and he will make the same dying cat sound.  Funny kid.
  • He likes pretend like he's swimming in the bathtub.  He will lay down on his stomach and kick his feet up behind him.  Too cute!  He continues to love bath time and always gets the room soaking wet with all his crazy splashing.
  • If you ask him to give the baby a hug, he will hug and pat himself and say "aww".
  • He absolutely loves watching golf with his Daddy.  When the ball is hit he always squeals and claps.  He also gets a little disappointed when the ball doesn't go in the cup.
  • In addition to loving watching golf, he also loves to play golf.  He is pretty much obsessed with his golf clubs and golf balls.  He would play with them all day I'm sure.  He actually has a pretty good swing too.  Just yesterday he was showing us his pro-like follow through!
  • Reed loves to watch movies when riding in the car.  Thank goodness, this makes for much more pleasant car rides for everyone.  The best of this though is when he laughs out loud at the movie.
  • He ate salsa for the first time at Chile's and he liked it.  He wasn't even phased by how spicy it was.
  • We have sporadically talked about the clock at Chris's parents' house with Reed.  While riding down the road the other day, he saw a big clock and said "clock".  It never ceases to amaze us at what a little sponge he is.
  • He continues to pick up new words everyday.  My favorites have to be cracker, bagel and his name for my Dad, Gun-Gun (short for Granddaddy).
  • He continues to love books.  He especially loves the new book he got for Christmas, The Cow Loves Cookies.
  • He has started throwing his toys out of his crib when he is mad and doesn't want to go to sleep.  Good thing he hasn't figured out how to climb out and get them yet.
  • He uses a fork like a pro and is okay at using a spoon.  He likes to put them in his mouth sideways so sometimes food slides off his spoon.
  • He has a little bit of separation anxiety at night.  If we are standing there rubbing his back, he will lay down in his crib and get comfy.  As soon as we remove our hand, he is either trying to pull it back down with his hand or he pops up quickly and starts crying.
  • The little stinker fights sleep like crazy.  I envy my friend whose kid loves to go night-night.  I've probably said this before so forgive me if you are reading it for a second or maybe even third time.
  • He has figured out to pull the cord of the lamp in his room to turn it on and off.  And, as you might have guessed, this is now the first thing he does upon entry into his room.
  • He loves to drive or pretend like he's driving.  He'll drive whatever anyone will let him, car, four-wheeler, tractor, etc.  It's his favorite thing to do.
  • Reed continues to love Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.  Honestly, we don't let him watch it that often, but it does provide some entertainment for Reed when I need to get some things done around the house.  He used to ask to watch it by saying "Mouse" but now he just says "Mick".  I am assuming he will put it all together pretty soon.
17 Months!

This was the first picture I got of him.  As you might imagine, this is getting harder and harder.

Cheese!

"Get me Dad.  Make Mommy stop with all this picture stuff."

My, my, little boy, what big feet you have!

Cheesing again!

Laying in the floor with Daddy reading Cat in the Hat.
