Happy 3rd Birthday Reed!

Check out the last bullet for a hilarious update from Reed's doctor's appointment today!

Whoa, this cannot be real.  Our kid cannot be 3 years old.  It seems like yesterday that we were bringing him home from the hospital, a helpless little infant, and now we have a full-fledged independent, opinionated, sweet, sensitive, polite, and smart little person.  He makes our lives so much more interesting.  We couldn't be more blessed to have Reed in our lives.  We love you buddy!  Happy Birthday Reedie!!

Stats
Height: 39 inches (90th percentile)
Weight: 31 lbs. (50th percentile)

3 Year Update....
  • After asking Reed to tell me his favorite color, he said "blue and red and the train".
  • Favorite Food: "I like pasta and meatballs, bacon and donuts, milk and cheese."  He's hilarious!
  • Reed is extremely observant.  He picks up on everything.  We seriously can't get anything past him.  One night I mumbled something under my breath, like "your daddy is so silly" and he said "what'd you say mommy?"
  • He is a sponge when it comes to new words and he uses them correctly.
  • He was totally adorable the other day when he asked me if it was August, you know, to see if his birthday was coming up.  And I said, yes it is August.  His response, "I love August, woohoo!"
  • He is a master at staying up as late as possible.  There are no less than two trips to the potty after stories have been read and he is already in bed.
  • He loves, loves to sing and dance and play his keyboard.  His keyboard has a setting that will play multiple instrumentals and he plays it over and over and dances to every song.  He has even made up words to some of the songs.  He has really good rhythm too.  I love it!
  • He is usually talking nonstop.  He is constantly asking me questions or telling me about something.
  • He absolutely loves to play pretend.  He is constantly making up stories and pulling me in to play a role in his story.  He is really big into acting out the train scene from Toy Story 3.  "You've got a date with justice, One Eyed Bart", which is probably his favorite line from the movie.  For his birthday, we got him fire chief gear, train engineer gear and a super hero outfit.  He played with them all day.
  • He absolutely adores watching new movies and of course he loves to watch TV, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Thomas, and Little Einsteins are his favorites.
  • He is such a polite little guy.  He has been so good lately about saying please and thank you and yes sir, yes, even to me, lol!  I correct him and he still says yes sir.  Oh well!
  • He loves to read.  He actually knows his Toy Story book word for word.  In other books, he corrects me if I miss a word or say the wrong word.  Can't get anything by on this little guy!
  • Reed is pretty good at recognizing the majority of the alphabet and numbers 1-10 as well.  He is working on spelling his name, for which he usually either says R-d-d or R-e-d.  The first week of school he came home spelling it correctly, but that hasn't happened again since.  We will keep working on it.
  • A few weeks ago we gave some furniture, that we had been wanting to replace for a while, to our nephew.  Reed is constantly walking around the house asking where our furniture is.  And, he even asked if a few ladies who came over to clean the other day if there were going to take our furniture.  The kid is paranoid, lol!  The hilarity got even worse today when at the end of his check-up as the doctor was walking out of the room, he says "hold on, hold on, hold on, we don't have any furniture."  Oh dear!
This is certainly not an all-inclusive list.  He doesn't go a day without doing something that is worthy of this list, so I am going to do my best to jot down a few things the rest of the week to add to the list.  So, be sure to check back for more about our little big Reed!

Matteson - 1 Year Old!

My sweet friend Jessica asked me to take a few pics of her absolutely adorable little girl Matteson for her first birthday.  It was such a treat to spend time with this wonderful family of three.  Matteson, who is normally a ham for the camera, was a bit apprehensive, but she definitely turned on her smiley face at times during the shoot.  Thanks again Jessica for allowing me to capture images of your precious Matteson and beautiful family!!

Swim Lessons!

Reed had his first swim lesson last week.  He isn't as comfortable in the water as we would like him to be and this is an easy way to keep him in the water throughout the fall.  Optimally, we would have spent a lot of time at the pool this summer and swim lessons would not be necessary, but life has definitely got in the way.  So, Reed and I are making time for him to swim during the week.

Last week, he was excited about being in the water for the first five minutes and then he didn't want to listen to anything the instructor said.  So she requested that I leave the room.  After that, he did a good bit better.  He did not, however, want to go under the water.  Thankfully, the instructor made him do it anyway.  And today, he did somewhat better, but I was still asked to leave the room.  I don't mind at all, considering he definitely seems to listen better if I am not around.  He did so well today kicking, moving across the wall and then finally jumping in (with a little coaxing required).  I am definitely excited about watching him get more comfortable in the water.  I am going to try to get us to the pool at least once a week before the pool closes for the year to aid in his progress!  Can't wait for him to be a little fish!

He was very excited at the beginning of his first lesson.  That is, until he decided that he just wanted to do his own thing versus listening to his instructor.
Kicking away in swim class the second week.

First day of school!

Reed started his first day in the 3's class yesterday.  He was such a big boy.  He just walked right into his classroom after hearing the bell ring.  He also had a really good day at school.  Let's hope that continues.

Before school, I tried to take a picture of him.  It didn't work out so well, lol.  He's still cute though.

We started out with his back to me.  That's what everyone was hoping to see, right?

Then he started doing this "I'm so cute" pose.  Not sure where he learned this.
Me: Put your hands by your side.  Reed: Okay Mom, does this work?
Or maybe this?
I tried the iPhone hoping for better results.
Huh?
And outside of the school, I couldn't get him to stand still for anything.
Just outside his classroom, he decided to pose like a big boy with his new bag.  Too bad I didn't take my good camera in.
