14 weeks has brought about a whole new beast that I am none too happy about. It involves sleeping. Several things about my sleeping habits have changed since becoming pregnant. I can no longer stay up until 11, bedtime is now a firm 10. I found out the hard way that less sleep caused me to be more nauseous and have headaches that I didn’t want to deal with. So, I have adjusted to the 10 pm schedule (as has Chris, lol). The joy of sleeping an extra hour peacefully lasted for maybe a few weeks and then I had to start getting up in the middle of the night to use the restroom. I do my best to try and not drink anything after dinner, but it never fails. I usually have to pull myself out of the bed at 1 am for a bathroom break. Ugh, this is no fun. I have heard that this is your body’s way of getting you ready for the middle of the night feedings. I think I am going to be well prepared.
Now, onto the beast that I referred to above…..after a 1 am trip to the restroom, I get 3 more hours a sleep and then I wake up again. Yes, at 4 am I wake up again but this time I don’t have to use the restroom. At this point in time, I am just uncomfortable. I toss and turn from side to side trying to get back to sleep. I think I might get in 30-45 minutes intervals of sleep before I am awake again. I am almost relieved when my alarm goes off at 6:20 indicating time to get out of the bed. I am not sure what is causing this but it is not fun at all. I might have to mention it to my doctor just to see if she has any remedies. I honestly just feel uncomfortable in every position. Talking about it now, I am thinking that maybe I am getting too much sleep. Maybe I should try reverting back to the 11 pm bedtime to see if that makes these couple of hours of restlessness go away. We shall see. Hopefully, this beast will go away soon.
Something a little different happened this morning that I am not sure what it was. I know it is WAY too early to feel the baby but as I was laying there waiting for my alarm to go off, I felt the slightest flutter in my stomach. It felt like a butterfly in my stomach, which is what everyone describes as how you feel your baby for the first time. I am going to chalk this up to gas for now, lol, but I will definitely be more conscious of small movements or changes in my stomach. Who knows?!?! Maybe our NBA or WNBA player is already poking and prodding at me, haha!
Tomorrow, Chris and I have an appointment with our doctor. We haven’t seen her in 5 weeks, so we are looking forward to it. And, of course, we are looking forward to seeing the baby again. I will post any updates tomorrow, hopefully with some new pics of our growing baby.
At 14 weeks, our baby can now squint, frown, grimace, and possibly suck its thumb! Can’t you imagine how cute it is in there! From head to bottom, our baby is now measuring approximately 3 and ½ inches and is about the size of a lemon. The below ticker shows what the baby might look like at this point in time.
We usually wait and take bump pictures on Saturday, so I will post the pictures over the weekend or on Monday.
