Let's compare!

Reed at 1 month!

Carson at 1 month!
While I do think that Carson favors Reed, she definitely has her own look.  Can't wait to see how she changes as she grows.  She may end up looking more like her brother than these pictures seem to say.  We shall see.  What precious kiddos we have.....if I do say so myself!

Carson - 1 Month Old!

I cannot believe our baby girl is already one month old, as of August 16th (I am sure no one is shocked that I am a little behind!)!  We are so blessed to have her in our family!  Her big brother absolutely adores her and doesn't seem bothered by her crying at all.  He even sings to her to try and cheer her up.  He also gives her lots of kisses.  I can't wait to see their relationship grow as Carson gets bigger. She already looks his way when he talks and seems to be very interested in him.

1 Month Stats:
Weight: 9 lbs. 1 oz. (50th percentile)
Height: 22 1/4 inches (90th percentile)
Head: 14 3/8 inches (50th percentile)

At 1 Month:

  • Miss Carson is sleeping so well!  Just the other night she slept from 12:30 to 7:30.  I was shocked and super pumped.  Her brother slept through the night around this time as well.  Every night kind of varies, but she has been a rockstar and I appreciate it.  She just might have her days and nights mixed up a little bit though, she tends to sleep all day and wants to hang out in the evenings.
  • The little bean loves to eat, as you can see by her over 2 pound weight gain from birth.  I think we may have a chunky monkey on our hands!
  • Carson is a little, okay a lot, gassy at times.  And it usually occurs around 11 o'clock at night, which sometimes means we are up until 2 or so.  When she does get her gas out, she sleeps like a champ and goes to sleep right after her feeding.  Hopefully we won't be calling the ambulance for her as a toddler like we did with Reed because of gas.
  • She absolutely hates to sit in a wet diaper.  Talk about dramatic.  Reed literally could have stayed in a wet diaper all day, it must be the difference between a boy and girl.
  • Girlfriend only cries when she is hungry, gassy or sleepy and it usually ends soon after we give her what she wants.
  • She wears size 1 diapers and will probably be out of those before we know it because she is so long.
  • She is wearing size 0-3 months and 3 months clothing depending on the brand.
  • She refuses to take a paci, gagging if we put it in her mouth.  Oh, how I wish she would change her mind on this subject, if only for a few months.

Our Sweet Baby

Let me start by saying that we are pretty sure there isn't anything major wrong with Carson, however, we are stuck at Children's Hospital for at least one more night, maybe two.

Last night around 8, Carson felt a little warm so I took her temp.  I got the dreaded 100.4, which is considered an emergency for a newborn.  Chris took her temp a few minutes later and it was 100.6.  Ugh, not good.  We waited 10 more minutes and checked it again.  It was 100.1, phew.  I decided to call the nurse anyway, just to be safe.  Once the nurse called us back, she asked questions about Carson's breathing, coloring and eating (I can only assume to rule out a need for an ambulance) and then she said we should go ahead and head the emergency room.  Even though it had dropped, they were still concerned.

We drove, somewhat fast, to the emergency room with our two kiddos in tow thinking that they would check her vitals and we would be on our way.  Boy, were we wrong!

We were quickly taken to a room.  Once in the room, three nurses came in to start checking on our sweet girl.  The doctor came in shortly thereafter and lowered the boom on us.  They would be taking a urine sample, inserting an IV, taking blood and doing a SPINAL TAP on our baby girl.  Yes, you read that right.  I pretty much lost it when he said this.  He also told us that it was standard protocol to admit a newborn automatically for at least 48 hours.  She would be put on antibiotics just in case the cultures came back positive.

So, we are now 24 hours into our stay.  Our sweet girl has been a rockstar, even after all the poking and prodding.  All the preliminary results are coming back clear, so I am pretty confident that everything is going to be okay.  Oh, how I hope and pray that we get the all clear tomorrow and are able to go home tomorrow evening, no matter how late.  Prayers that our Carson just had a virus and is on the rebound are very much appreciated.
